Porcelain Jewelry Making
Discover the art of contemporary porcelain jewelry in Florence in this 6-credit immersive course, where material sensitivity, ceramic tradition, and jewelry design converge into a hands-on creative experience.
Students explore porcelain as both a sculptural and wearable material, developing a personal jewelry language rooted in experimentation and craft.
The Course
The program reconnects students with porcelain as a material of both technical complexity and poetic potential. Traditionally associated with refinement, ritual, and preciousness, porcelain becomes the foundation on which each student builds a contemporary design language, reinterpreted through hands-on research and material exploration.
The curriculum moves through the key dimensions of porcelain jewelry making: foundations of material behavior and properties, forming and construction techniques including hand modelling, carving, and mold-based processes, and surface experimentation through glazes, pigments, and third firing techniques with lustres and precious metals. Technical skill and expressive research develop in parallel throughout the course.
Set in Florence, within the historic artisan districts of Santo Spirito and San Frediano, the course takes place in an urban environment where craft culture, creative practice, and contemporary making naturally coexist.

Final Project
The course concludes with the creation of a small collection of original porcelain jewelry pieces, entirely conceived and crafted by each student. From initial material research to finished wearable objects, participants develop their own formal and expressive language, working with porcelain, glazes, and surface treatments to produce a cohesive body of work that reflects their technical growth and individual design sensibility.
