Leather bags artigiano


This is a semester long program that includes the apprentice level and is designed for students who want to attend a full path that will enable them to turn their skills into a profession. Students will be able to create their own bags and accessories collection. After having successfully completed the Apprentice level, students are welcome to continue to the Artigiano level where they will improve and practice the skills acquired in the first module.

The “Artigiano” level enhances the knowledge-base of the first trimester. It consists of three months of intensive study and work. The “Artigiano” program is only open to students who have completed the previous levels of study with the Scuola del Cuoio or to applicants in the field who have a solid foundation and experience. Instructors are all professionals in the field who will impart both their theoretical and practical abilities as well as their real world experience as a bagsmaker.

what you need to know

Artigiano level fee: €10,800. This semester course includes the apprentice level (rather than being a consecutive, separate course). Fees include: all class work, lessons, use of laboratories, taxes and insurance. Students can benefit from a 10% Early Bird Discount reserved for participants that enroll to the Spring intake, before the 15th October 2020.

Not included: accommodation and meals, airfare, airport transfer and meals, particular equipping requested, wooden last and material for personal projects.

Pre-enrollment necessary with a deposit of 3500€ (refunded if the application is not accepted or Visa is not granted) at the moment of the enrollment. If accepted, the deposit is lost if the student decides to not attend.

Structure and Method
This Module will provide the apprentice student with the skills to develop a profession in the field of leather making. This is a full program for young artisans who want specialize in the leather field (20 weeks / 700 hours - divided between specific modules and supervised project completion in the workshop). During this module students will gain the ability to manufacture complex bags and create their own collections. Students are also encouraged to develop the essential elements of their own brand and design uniformity. Throughout the module students will gain the ability to assemble and create complex bags like: Closed inside out bag, Classic constructions with irregular shape, bowling bag, classic bag with hanging lining. At the end of the course students will be able to develop their own project in our laboratories for further 3weeks under the guidance of our Maestros.
During the artigiano module students will also attend some theoretical modules such as:
History of fashion
This module traces the history of italian and western fashion from the mid-18th century to the present day. Delivered through lectures, screenings and visits, the course introduces students to understanding fashion as a social and cultural phenomenon through the examination, exploration and consideration of creativity, context and archiving.
Photography Lab
This module will provide the basic skills for taking still-life photographs of shoes and accessories and allow students to gain skills necessary to create images for press and digital media.
Design and branding elements
Students will learn basic concepts of design-centered approach related to leather products. Elements of Branding will provide students with an overall view of the potential of their product and brand.
Students will work in a professional workshop (free workshop) practicing and perfecting the use of tools and techniques learned during the Apprentice module. The final project is the production of a collection of bags. Students which will complete this module will be ready to become independent shoemakers
